Farm to Early Care Education
What is Farm to ECE
The Farm to Early Care and Education (ECE) program is a national movement to increase healthy dietary practices and access to fresh, local foods during early childcare years (0-5 yrs).
We work with Head Start and early childhood centers across New Orleans to:
Source fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables from local farmers to supply to centers for snacks, cafeteria recipes, and taste-tests.
Start, maintain, and provide technical assistance for school gardens
Provide engaging, hands-on food and nutrition education
New Orleans Programming
In New Orleans, we currently work with 10 Head Start and early childcare centers around the city, including:
Download our Enrichment Guide to access taste-tests, recipes, seasonal growing info, and more.
Statewide Coalition
FPC works at both a local and statewide level to increase Farm to ECE in access for children in Louisiana. FPC co-leads the Louisiana Farm to ECE work group with Well-Ahead Louisiana. This group consists of early childhood educators, leaders and policymakers as well as food system experts to expand the reach of Farm to ECE in Louisiana through policy change and outreach.
